Latest Update on VERBİS System Registration

Merhaba! I am Shun Yoshida from Tokyo Consulting Firm Turkey Office.

I shared about “Individual Income Tax” for the year of 2020 last week.

This week I would like to mention information on “Latest Update on VERBİS System Registration“ announced by Personal Data Protection Authority (DPA) on June 23^rd. In Turkey, the Law No. 6698 on the Protection of Personal Data (KİŞİSEL VERİLERİN KORUNMASI KANUNU: KVKK) was governed on April 7^th, 2016 with the aim of personal data protection.

As for the companies with more than a certain number of employees and size of financial balance are obliged to register at the Data Controllers Registry (VERBİS System) by designated data controllers according to the Article 16 of KVKK.

Although, registration period for VERBİS System had already been extended a couple of times from the initial registration deadline so far, this time the further extension has been decided due to the widespread of COVID-19. The new registration deadlines reported by DPA are given below.

【〜2020.9.30】

・The natural and legal person data controllers and the natural and legal person data controllers abroad, whose annual number of employees is more than 50 or the annual financial balance sheet total more than 25 million TRY

【〜2021.3.31】

・The natural and legal person data controllers whose main field of activity is processing of sensitive personal data and whose annual number of employees is less than 50 or the annual financial balance sheet total less than 25 million TRY

・Public institutions and organizations
