In this week, I would like to share the information regarding “Digital Service Tax”.
Turkish government announced the introduction of Digital Service Tax (DST) for some digital services including advertisements, sales, intermediary activities, content usage and etc.) in the Official Gazette 30971 on December 7 last year. This new tax entered into force on March 1st 2020.
The tax rate for DST will be 7.5% and it will be imposed on the amount of gross revenue generated in Turkey by digital companies. In addition, president is authorized to change the tax rate within the range of 1% to 15%. Its declaration and payment will be performed by taxpayers and those responsible for tax declaration in a monthly basis.
The following business enterprises will be subject to the objects of DST.
- Digital service providers with annual sales of more than 20 million TRY in Turkey
- Digital service providers with annual sales of 750 million EURO or with the equivalent amount in foreign currencies worldwide
In other words, a digital service provider will be exempt from DST if none of the above applies to it.
DST is deductible from the taxpayer’s taxable income with regard to corporate income tax and individual income tax. paid amount of digital services tax might be taken into account as an expense for income tax purposes.
